We’re back! When we closed our first crowdfunding round earlier this year two things happened. First, we raised a mighty $1,000,000 in new funds, but much more importantly, the love and support from our community for Vampr was unequivocally validated.

Today we’re reopening Vampr to the crowd in a smaller, follow-on round, with the intent of getting the company in shape for a Series A round in 2021. And we’ve got something really special planned to get us there:

But first, let’s rewind the clock for the uninitiated and recap our journey thus far 😊

Over three years we grew Vampr into the largest social-professional network for creatives in the world, as the go-to platform for the music industry to connect and collaborate in a creative and safe environment. Whether it be singers finding songwriters, graphic designers looking for work, or agents scouting for the next big thing, our multi-award winning app makes it happen.

The company was founded by myself, Josh Simons, and Baz Palmer. Between us we have forty years experience in the music industry, starting out playing small clubs, before moving to arenas and ultimately climbing the ladder through to stadiums, multiple awards and multi-platinum sales. I have worked with everyone from Travis Scott to Keith Urban. And Baz, well he’s a Hall of Famer, as the songwriter and lead guitarist for seminal Australian rock band Hunters & Collectors. The rest of our team have collectively spent decades working in music, tech and data science.

Last year when we opened the doors for our community to invest in Vampr we came to you with a vision: to open up our music network to creative people from all walks of life. Now, just eight months later we’ve realized that vision, creating substantial new value over that time. We have completely rebuilt Vampr from the ground up, we’ve tweaked our branding, and we launched a music rights representation and management division – Vampr Publishing. We have already amassed a catalogue of thousands of songs in record time. All this on the back of our increasingly valuable social network.

We also invested in people, doubling our team size, while equalizing the gender and diversity hiring gap. Most importantly, we grew our total user base to over 600,000 people, while growing group company revenues from $17,000 in 2019 to over $120,000 in the first half of 2020 alone. And this is prior to directly monetizing our user base with the just-launched subscription service, Vampr Pro. Since its very public September debut in Forbes, hundreds of paying customers have enthusiastically signed up, with thousands of dollars in monthly recurring revenue generated from the first month alone.  We’re now busy optimizing the freemium user to paying customer process with a 3% target conversion rate by year’s end – this is where things start to get lucrative!

Then COVID-19 hit. The novel coronavirus has had a profound impact on every person on the planet. This disease has physically pulled us apart while changing our everyday lives for the foreseeable future. As a company whose primary purpose is to connect people, we wanted to do more in the face of these once-in-a-lifetime challenges.

So instead of cutting costs we moved more aggressively than ever. We fast-tracked the release of Vampr Pro, from the 9 months that we promised during our last crowdfunding round down to 7 months into market. We prioritised bringing tools to artists which could help them make money in a time where touring and live events are no longer viable income streams. Tools such as music distribution and film and tv sync representation. We have rolled-out these features progressively over the past several months, with plenty more to come, in a clearly defined roadmap which will see us continue to innovate throughout the remainder of the year. Promises made. Promises kept.

What an exhilarating few weeks! Since relaunching Vampr, updating the brand and rolling out Vampr Pro we’ve been incredibly busy getting back to all things marketing, with tens of thousands of new users joining the platform during this time.

Meanwhile, on the product development front we’ve already pushed lots of new features for Pro and freemium users since launch. Today we’ll take a look at some of these new features while also providing a glimpse at one of the bigger changes we have in store over the coming months.

⚬ Pro users can now hide their age from showing up on their profile – this feature is perfect for businesses and working professionals where age shouldn’t be a factor in drumming up new work.

⚬ Ads can be pesky – especially when you’re paying for a premium service! This is why we are now hiding ads across all Vampr products for our Pro members.

⚬ We have introduced a free 7-day trial so now you can experience the benefits of Pro before committing to one of our low-cost subscription options.

⚬ Instagram x Vampr
This is a big one! After many years of user requests we have finally integrated Instagram directly into the Vampr profile. This means you can now link your accounts and show off your visual flair straight from Vampr ‼️ This is especially cool for the visual and graphic artists in our community for whom Soundcloud and YouTube aren’t exactly the best way to communicate your folio or works.

⚬ Chat
We’ve sped up the Messages section in-app by an order of 100x with the introduction of pagination and some additional UX tweaks. We are confident this will improve the Vampr experience for both returning and new users. By all means please let us know in the App Store or Play Store reviews section if you notice an improvement.

⚬ Share
We have added a share button to all profiles. Not only can you now share your own profile or someone else’s anywhere on the web, you can also preview this profile outside of Vampr on any browser and any device. This is especially significant as it marks our first step towards a future desktop experience for Vampr – more on that another time 😉

⚬ Verified Profiles Verified
We have begun verifying profiles so that users can identify Vampr team members and know with confidence whether a notable person is who they say they are. We will also be verifying Vampr users who express an interest in joining our street team to help grow the platform in smaller cities and communities. With a major update in the wings and the maturing of our technology, we felt it was time to give the brand identity an overhaul too. Nothing too radical, we love our resonating triangle and vibrant color.

But as with the app we wanted to simplify the look and feel while keeping things very familiar to our users. We didn’t want much to change, we just wanted it to evolve, to grow up a bit, and reflect the ever increasing vitality of our community.

So we started with the icon, trimmed a couple of the triangles, made them bolder and fixed the curves. We kept the ‘Play’ triangle at the centre and pointing the right way. We then rotated the outside triangle so the icon locks up better with the type, both horizontally and vertically. And finally, gave the colours a bump to dial up the energy.

Now that the icon was working better we updated the type to match. Thickening the stroke, spacing the characters and softening the rounded terminals were all done to balance the type mark with the icon in the new lock-ups. Then we looked at simplifying the type by changing the ‘a’ to a single story ‘a’ and added mirrored raised elements to the ‘a’ and ‘p’.

Bringing it all together we now have a brandmark that better balances its components. It works well in colour or reversed. The icon and type mark work well on their own and can also be used for secondary branding.

Overall we achieved what we wanted: an evolution to a stronger, harder-working version of our brandmark.

We have some very cool things to share with you…

Today we are thrilled to unveil a completely new Vampr. Launching alongside this major overhaul of the platform is our premium subscription service, Vampr Pro with Distribution. For good measure we updated our brand too, reflecting a stronger and more focused vision.

It’s taken two long years to get to this point and build a suite of tools that would support our ever growing user base and their needs. With the recent launch of Vampr Publishing, and the new Pro service with Distribution, today’s release elevates us from a simple networking tool to a 360º self-service platform for artists. Vampr was already the most vibrant music professional network in the world. With Vampr 2.0 it just got a whole lot better.
